The first N-3B jackets were manufactured in the fifties for flight crews, which were assigned to transport soldiers at very low temperatures. The parkas were originally made of Dupont outer cover - of silk nylon coating and a covering lined with wool wool type material. In 1970 it was polyester cottonwool. Long jackets have become known as the "Snorkel Parka" because the hood is equipped with an extended main zipper which, when closed, only leaves a small hole for the user's eyes. The modern N-3B models have sloping chest pouches and flap bottom pockets on the jacket and a panel that is attached with a zipper loop to protect it from the wind. Most modern versions use synthetic fur around the hood. N-3B was the first Alpha Industries jacket designed for the United States government. It’s waterproof, with two large front pockets, one inner pocket, two chest pockets, sleeve pocket, and hood with removable fur.
